I had been wanting to go out on my bike all week but it is winter here in New Zealand, and it gets dark around 5.30pm here in Nelson. As I work during the week the only time I can go out biking is at the weekend.

The forecast for this weekend was rain, and when we woke up it was very foggy. However the fog cleared and the rain stayed away so ventured out this afternoon. This time we started doing the same route as last Sunday, along the Estuary towards Nelson. We had gone a little way and stopped at a sign that had details of the other trails. We saw a cyclist turn off in front of us, and realised this was the trail that goes alongside the Estuary in the other direction towards Rabbit Island. We thought we would give this one a go, it was a bit more off road but still flat, and was a nice ride. I want to do it when the tide is in as it would be very picturesque. Warren had gone out during the week and bought a basic cycling gizmo for his bike that measured the distance we were biking.

I stopped to take some photos and he said we had only gone 3.4 kms. That wasn't nearly far enough so we kept on going until we got to the Exclusive Brethren school at Headingly Lane. We then went off the trail and rode back down Lower Queen St back to where we had parked the van on Beach Road. We had bike 7.2 km at 14km per hour. Again not very far, but further than last weekend.
I've often wanted to walk along there, perhaps we'll have to cycle along there together next time we visit.
